Theft of Wallets from Shopping Carts

On April 12, 2022, four different women had their wallets stolen from their handbags while food shopping in Abington Township. The thief, who is described as a white female, approximately 30 years of age, with dark hair and blonde highlights, appears to have targeted women who left their handbags in the child portion of the cart and were otherwise distracted. The suspect removed the wallets from the handbags, so the thefts were not discovered until the victims went to pay for their groceries. Abington detectives are currently investigating these crimes, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Abington Police Department at (267)536-1100.

This is a current crime trend that is occurring throughout our region. The Abington Police Department urges shoppers to be vigilant and not leave your valuables unattended in a shopping cart. It is always safest to keep your handbag attached to your person and with the zipper or snap closed.
