Theft from Motor Vehicle Arrest

On January 29, 2019 at 3:20 AM, an officer on patrol observed a male dressed in all dark clothing, wearing a backpack, emerge from the back yard of a private residence located on the 300 block of Fillmore Street in the Jenkintown section of Abington Township. When confronted by the officer, the male said that he got off the wrong bus and was trying to get home. Further investigation revealed that the male was in possession of gloves, a flashlight and his backpack contained numerous items belonging to residents of that neighborhood. Officers canvassed the neighborhood and found that at least five unlocked cars had been entered and had property stolen from them. These thefts occurred on the 100 and 200 blocks of Zane Avenue and the 300 block of Fillmore Street. The suspect, who was identified as twenty-year old Donovan HICKS of the 9600 block of Ashton Road in Philadelphia, was arrested and charged with Loitering and Prowling at Nighttime and Thefts from Motor Vehicles. District Judge Harry Nesbitt set Hick’s bail at $5,000. After being unable to post his bail, Hicks was transported to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.

While Abington Police Department’s officers have been focused on recent thefts from motor vehicles and investigating suspicious persons during the overnight hours, the best way to help us is to lock your vehicles and keep valuables out of view. The Abington Police Department is requesting that anyone observing suspicious behavior in their neighborhood immediately call 9-1-1.
