On May 28, 2018, at 4:50 AM, Abington Police and Fire units were dispatched to the area of Patane Ave. and Reservoir Ave. for a report of smoke in the area. As officers checked the property of the Center School, at 2450 Hamilton Ave., they found an old storage unit which was fully engulfed in flames. The unit, which was located approximately 80 feet from the actual school, was completely destroyed. Also destroyed in the fire were the contents of the unit, approximately $5,000 worth of furniture belonging to the school. Officers also checked the actual school, and discovered that someone had thrown a brick through one of the windows of the school. The damage to the window was estimated at $500.

Early indications are that the fire was intentionally set. The arson and criminal mischief to the school will be investigated by the Abington Police Detective Division, the Abington Township Fire Marshal’s Office, and the PA State Police Fire Investigators. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the Abington Township Police Department’s Detective Division at (267)536-1100.
