Case 14-016541
Crossing Guard Struck by Car

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on April 30, 2014 a car operated by 41 year old Lamont Epps of Willow Grove struck the Abington Township School Crossing Guard who is stationed at the Copper Beech School. The crossing guard, Rosemarie Timoney of Glenside, was injured and was transported to Abington Memorial Hospital where she is being treated. The accident occurred in front of the Copper Beech School which is located at 825 Easton Road, Glenside. It was raining at the time and the roadway was wet. In addition, the school zone lights were active and flashing for 15 mph.

Investigation indicates that the crossing guard was standing on the sidewalk and the car left the roadway, went onto the sidewalk and struck the guard. When the crossing guard was knocked down by the car she fell into another woman who was also knocked to the ground. This woman suffered minor facial injuries.

Epps stated that he had just finished work, was tired and believes he may have fallen asleep. There was no indication of chemical or alcohol impairment. The accident is still under investigation by the Abington Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
