CALEA Re-Accreditation

Public Notice

The Abington Township Police Department is scheduled for an on-site assessment in conjunction with its effort to maintain international accreditation through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).  The assessment is to verify that the Department is in compliance with professional law enforcement standards.

The accreditation program is administered by CALEA, a nonprofit organization based in Fairfax, Virginia.  It requires that the Abington Township Police Department comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas:  policies and procedures, administration, operations, and support services.

As part of the on-site assessment, personnel of the Abington Township Police Department and the general public are invited to offer comments either by:

1)   Attending a Public Information Session Wednesday, November 13th, 2019, beginning at 4:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. at the Abington Township Building.

2)   Using a local phone line (267-536-1065) established for a phone-in Public Information Session scheduled for Wednesday, November 13th, 2019, between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.

Members of the On-Site Assessment Team will receive public comments during both of these times.

All comments, both by phone and in person, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the Abington Township Police Department’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.  A copy of the Standards for Law Enforcement Agencies Manual is available at the Records Room Window at the Police Department and at the Township Reception Desk.  Persons with questions regarding the accreditation program can contact Abington’s Accreditation Manager Lieutenant Kevin Magee at 267-536-1069 or the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. at 1-703-352-4225.

Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Abington Township Police Department’s ability to comply with accreditation standards may send them to CALEA, 13575 Heathcote Blvd. Suite 320, Gainesville, VA. 20155.
