42 year old Dennis McGowen Arrested for Robbery, False Imprisonment, Impersonating a Public Servant and Related Offenses

Case #: 19-012185

On March 25, 2019, at 10:00 PM, three individuals were sitting inside a vehicle in the 1100 block of Colonial Avenue in the Roslyn section of Abington Township. A vehicle with blue and white flashing lights pulled behind them.  The operator, described as a white male, approached them, yelling that they were speeding and had made an illegal U-turn.  The individuals believed the male to be a police officer because of the flashing lights. The male then told the occupants to, “give me the weed or I will let my dog out on you”.  Believing that this was a police officer, the occupants complied to the request of the male.  The male left and as he drove away they saw a decal on the rear of the SUV that read “Caution- K9 Inside”, confirming their belief he was a police officer.

Abington Police located the now unoccupied SUV a short time later, and were able to identify the suspect as Dennis McGowen, 42, from the 2500 block of Susquehanna Road, Abington. Officers observed from outside the vehicle, a bag marked “Police” and handcuffs.  The investigation revealed that McGowen is not a police officer in Abington Township or anywhere else.  A warrant was issued for McGowen’s arrest for the following charges Robbery, False Imprisonment, Impersonating a Public Servant, and related offenses.  He was taken into custody on March 30, 2019, at 7:30 PM, after officers observed him walking near his house. McGowen was arraigned by District Judge Edward Kropp. He was transported to Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post $25,000 cash bail.
