Safety Tips

  1. Always pay attention to the roadway in front of you as well as your surroundings. Avoid distractions from passengers, texting or using your cell phone, or reading while driving. IF YOU MUST do a task that will interfere with your operation of the vehicle pull to the side of the road first.
  2. Remember to turn your headlights on any time your windshield wipers are in use.
  3. Always follow traffic in front of you by no less than three car lengths to avoid collisions if the vehicle in front of you suddenly stops or loses control. Follow at a further distance if there is inclement weather.
  4. When approaching the area of an emergency or a traffic stop remember to (1) PASS in a lane not adjacent to that of the emergency response area; or (2) if passing in a non adjacent lane is not possible, illegal or unsafe, pass the emergency response area at a careful and prudent reduced speed reasonable for safely passing the emergency response area.(If cited for a violation under PAMVC 3327 DUTY OF DRIVER IN EMERGENCY RESPONSE AREAS, a maximum penalty of $250.00 may be assessed.)

FACT: MORE POLICE OFFICERS HAVE BEEN KILLED IN TRAFFIC CRASHES IN THE PAST TEN YEARS THAN HAVE DIED AT THE HANDS OF A FELON!

While in an ACTIVE WORK ZONE please SLOW DOWN and TURN YOUR HEADLIGHTS ON.  REMEMBER FINES DOUBLE IN WORK ZONES!
