APD Arrests Burglary Suspects

NEWS RELEASE

Case 11-037722
Tuesday, August 23, 2011

At approximately 1:00 AM on August 23, 2011 a passerby reported to Abington Police that there were three men, one with a crow bar at Faulkner Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge at 900 Old York Road. Officers responded and three suspects were located hiding in the area. They were: Paul Thomas KELLY, age 51 of 1447 W. Cayuga Street, Philadelphia. Officers found KELLY ducked down behind a dumpster and took him into custody without incident. Steven METZ, age 52 of 3531 Chippendale Street, Philadelphia and Gregorio William JEWELLS, age 56 of 6647 Erdrick Street, Philadelphia were found hiding in a nearby wooded area by an Abington K-9 and his partner. Both refused to follow the Officer’s commands and were bitten by the dog. They were treated at Abington Memorial Hospital for their bite wounds and returned to Abington’s Cell Block to rejoin KELLY. All three are being held at Abington pending their arraignment on burglary and related charges.

Officers determined that a door to the dealership had been pried and a window was also opened. Wires to the alarm system had been cut and the entire alarm panel had been removed from the wall. Items on the safe had also been moved but it appears that the suspects fled prior to actually taking anything.
