On September 26, 2018, Abington Police received information from a concerned citizen that Thomas Kummer, a 55-year old teacher at Abington Senior High School was involved in a sexual relationship with a minor student. An investigation produced evidence that a sexual relationship between Kummer and the minor student began in July of 2018 and has been ongoing. The sexual contact between Kummer and the minor child occurred on numerous occasions inside Kummer’s vehicle at various locations in Abington Township, and at Kummer’s residence in the Willow Grove section of Upper Moreland Township.

An arrest warrant was issued for Kummer on September 30, 2018, after which he was arrested without incident at his home in the 400 block of Krewson Terrace, Willow Grove. He will face charges of Unlawful Contact with a Minor, Corruption of Minors, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Institutional Sexual Assault of a Minor (all felonies). Detectives are continuing to investigate this matter. Kummer will be arraigned later today by District Justice Juanita Price, 875 Easton Road, Glenside. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Cindy Pettinato at 267-536-1098.
