ABINGTON POLICE DEPARTMENT ESTABLISHES “SAFE T ZONE”
FOR CITIZENS TO SAFELY TRANSFER PROPERTY WITH OTHERS

Abington Township Police Department announces the creation of a new “Abington Safe T Zone” (Safe Transfer Zone) in the police department lobby. The “Safe T Zone” will provide a safe place for citizens to meet for transactions and transfers, especially when they are meeting strangers to buy or sell property.

“We were first approached with the idea by Ward 3 Commissioner Larry Jones who had seen another Township implement a similar program. Everyone has heard of incidents of internet sales meetings ending in robbery or worse” says Abington Police Chief William Kelly. “We are pleased to be able to provide our residents with a safe alternative. This will provide a safe, neutral location for both parties to meet and conduct their transaction.”

Appointments are not necessary. The police department lobby is open 24 hours, seven days a week and is under 24-hour videotaped surveillance, as is the parking lot.

The only restriction is that No Weapons transfers are permitted in the “Safe T Zone”.
